OverviewAn award-winning, specialist magazine printer with independently verified quality and environmental credentials. Pensord's highly skilled team provides a 'one-stop-shop' facility from pre-press digital and web-based processes (including a Digital Editions service to create on-line multi-media publications), through material print, binding and comprehensive finishing services, to product distribution via mail.
HistoryPensord was founded in 1969 by the Billboard Company of America specifically to produce the weekly publication Record Retailer, and its ownership changed a number of times in its first 30 years. Chief Executive, Tony Jones, appointed in March 2000, completed a management buy-out of the business in June 2003 and embarked on a significant investment programme which saw the company return to profitability in 2004 and turnover grow to £12 million in 2009. In addition to introducing the Pensord Charter which formalises the business ethics and teamwork on which the company operates, in 2004 staff were given a share of the business in the form of free share options. Recent significant achievements include gaining Investor in People status and independently verified environmental certifications, and winning two BPIF/Printing World Excellence Awards in 2008: Company of the Year (for companies with more than 100 employees) and Improved Financial Performance.
Client ListPensord prints over 300 titles for a range of UK publishers, from larger corporate publishers, including Trinity Mirror, IPC, and Centaur Media, to smaller, entrepreneurial publishing houses.
Market FocusPensord operates in the short-run, sheet-fed controlled circulation magazine market and actively supports the UK publishing industry through its links with, and associate membership of, the Periodical Publishers Association (PPA) and as the Strategic Partner of the Independent Publishers Advisory Council (IPAC).
Environmental CredentialsPensord cares about the environment and is committed to the continual improvement of its environmental credentials, and is certified to ISO 14001 (with a full environmental management system), and FSC and PEFC chain of custody. These certifications build on Pensord's long-established use of vegetable-based inks, comprehensive recycling processes, and energy-efficient machinery and technologies. All of this is underpinned by proactive advice from British Printing Industries Federation (BPIF) environmental experts. We also offer a free, no obligation green health check for all publishers, not just our customers, to help them achieve their own green objectives.
