FSC Are Encouraging Consumers To Take The FSC Christmas Card Pledge
Forests are an extremely important part of the environment. Well-managed sustainable forests give multiple benefits to society, such as livelihoods, ecosystem services and biodiversity, while helping to tackle climate change.
To ensure the long-term health of European forests, sustainable forest management underpins how the paper industry operates and sources its main raw material. A number of schemes exist to ensure forests are sustainably managed. The two most recognised are the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC).
It is estimated that UK consumers send 1 billion Christmas cards each year. Although these cards can be both biodegradable and easily recyclable, they can also be the product of poor forestry practices, if they are not sourced responsibly.
So FSC UK want to ensure that, if you do choose to send Christmas cards, that you choose FSC-certified cards (or materials, if you’re into making your own Christmas cards) to help to take care of forests, and the people and wildlife that depend on them.
