Neil Osment is the founder and owner of NOA Ltd. Before forming NOA, Neil enjoyed a successful 25-year career in the packaging industry working for multi-national Paper, Print & Plastics businesses such as LINPAC, DS Smith, Alcoa, SAICA & Smurfit-Kappa in roles that included operating at European Sales Director, Commercial Director & General Manager level.
Neil sits on the committee for the SPA (UK Sheet Plant Association) as well as the Marketing and Communications Committee for the CPI (Confederation of Paper Industries).
Ms Despotou is the Director General of FEFCO. She has a long-standing experience of more than 25 years in Industry association management and Public Affairs. Before joining FEFCO, she has worked in various responsible positions at the Solar Power Europe and industrial minerals industries associations United Nations and European Commission.
Over the years, she has acquired extensive expertise on industry related issues on climate change, energy, circular economy, and sustainability. Ms Despotou has a background of Mechanical Engineering, Political sciences with expertise in Energy and Climate Change.
Tony Lock is currently the UK&I business manager for the folded carton segment, working for HP Indigo. Tony is a veteran of the print industry having previously worked for Xerox, Toshiba, Oki, and Duplo and was previously the chairman of PrintIT, the largest industry into schools program in the UK.
Outside of work Tony is a trustee of a local charity Age Concern, loves walking, attempts to keep fit with varying degrees of success, travel and spending as much time as possible with the family.
Karl Axnäs has a M.Sc in Chemical Engineering, majoring in Pulp & Paper chemistry. Karl has spent the last 20 years working in the Pulp & Paper business, with a wide value chain span. From close to production in pulp and paper mills to innovation together with brand owners on how to reduce fossil plastics.
As the Head of Sustainability at Solidus, a leading provider of circular packaging solutions, Jesse leverages his 15+ years of experience and MSc/Ir. degree in Environmental Economics and Natural Resources to create value for Solidus customers, stakeholders, and society at large.
Jesse’s core competencies include developing and implementing sustainability strategies, policies, and initiatives, as well as leading a regional packaging sales organization and collaborating with cross-functional teams and external partners. Jesse is passionate about applying his expertise in climate-and water management, sustainable sourcing, and sustainability capability building to optimize the environmental performance and social impact of Solidus products and processes. His mission is to help Solidus achieve its vision of being a circular economy champion and a sustainability leader in the packaging industry.
Dane Whitehurst is the Creative Director at Burgopak Ltd, a company focussed on using packaging design and cardboard engineering to build education, delight and sustainability into the unboxing of products.
As a packaging designer, Dane has worked with many of the world’s biggest brands including Google, Samsung, Unilever, Sony, Chase, HSBC, Bayer and more and has helped some of the most innovative start-ups launch new and ground-breaking products. In recent years he has been heavily focussed on the environment and leads a taskforce within the organisation to bring sustainability to the forefront of innovative packaging design.
Dane is also a visiting lecturer and speaks internationally on the subject of packaging design. He is credited with a host of international patents and design awards and his work has been featured in galleries and museums including the MoMA, NY and The Design Museum, London. Dane Graduated from Central Saint Martins, London in 2005 with a Master’s Degree in Industrial Design.
Josh Birch is the Campaign Manager for Two Sides UK and the Love Paper campaign. Run by the not-for-profit organisation Two Sides, Love Paper is a global campaign promoting the sustainable and attractive attributes of print, paper and paper packaging to consumers.
In 2023, Love Paper had over 2,000 adverts in national newspapers and magazines, reaching 20 million consumers every month, to explain the sustainable nature of our industry and its products.
The Love Paper logo is a consumer friendly marketing symbol available for brands to use on their printed communications and paper-based packaging, to encourage their customers to discover the sustainable facts around print, paper and paper packaging and the environment.
Elin Furelid is the Director of Future Packaging for The Absolut Company. With a dynamic career spanning over 15 years in product strategy, innovation, and design, Elin Furelid emerges as a driving force for positive transformation. Recognized for her pivotal role in driving innovation for Absolut Vodka, Sweden’s largest food export present on more than 100 markets globally, Elin has consistently devoted herself to infusing creativity into her professional journey.
As the Director of Future Packaging at The Absolut Group, Elin leads The Absolut Company’s Future of Packaging program—a visionary initiative designed to delight consumers while minimizing waste and reducing the overall climate impact. This visionary role positions Elin at the forefront of progressive change, allowing her to marry historical values and brand DNA with forward-thinking design and packaging that consumers wants and the world needs.
Elin’s commitment to positive change is exemplified by the Absolut Paper Bottle project—a testament to her drive to champion paper as a primary material complementing the iconic glass bottle. Beyond her illustrious marketing career, Elin has a background as a former elite athlete, having played European Handball in Sweden and Greece. This showcases her unwavering determination and commitment to excellence in both professional and personal pursuits.
Maja Kjellberg is responsible for leading and implementing innovative and sustainable packaging solutions according to the overall IKEA direction. Her focus is on leading the plastic phase-out project, finding new materials and driving material specification.
Maja has a degree in packaging design and started at IKEA in 2011, working with developing packaging solutions for various product areas.
Ian Bates is the Two Sides European Marketing & Partnership Director.
After over 20 years working within the packaging industry, Ian has been at the cutting-edge of paper-based packaging developments, working with leading brand owners to help them reduce their dependency on single-use plastic. He holds a wealth of experience about the forest and cellulose value chain and how to collaborate with multiple partners and stakeholders.
